In my opinion, no, if someone needs a miter saw for home improvement projects this is more miter saw than they really need. This miter saw is probably best for permanent installations where the saw will be setup and used all the time and the space that the saw takes up is an important consideration. The design is one of the shallowest sliding miter saws. So, if space is really important then it's great. This saw is really heavy at 65 pounds, so it's not one that you want to move around a lot. I want one, but even at this really good price, I can't justify replacing my larger and not as nice Metabo HPT. The glide mechanism gets a lot of criticism for play, but it is super smooth, and the one I've tried at my local lumber store doesn't deflect any more than my Metabo HPT. If I didn't already have a miter saw, and I do want it enough that I'd buy it at this price, but I don't "need" it.

This is a fantastic saw. Don't hesitate if you've been wanting a new/upgraded miter saw. There are also custom-made dust collection attachments that take it from "sawdust generator" to "pretty good for a miter saw".

Reviews online have lots of people satisfied with this saw, however know that if you extend it out, there is significant play left and right with the "robotic" arm. It's fine as long as you are cutting right next to the fence, but cutting something wide it was impossible to keep it square.

Excellent saw but not without quirks. Dust collection is miserable. Also no laser or shadow line. Both are solvable but will add to your overall cost.

Nearly every saw has deflection at full extension, so ignore those comments. If you are cross-cutting material wider than 8in then use a table saw.

Is there a reason for the weekend warrior homeowner to buy this vs other cheaper 12" compound miter saws, such as the Metabo 12" that was recently posted for $300? I just need something that can make accurate cuts for random projects around the house, such as walk in closets, acoustic panels, trim, etc.
